  1.             CASTING THE CIRCLE  ONE
  2.  
  3. Set up : place a candle in each of the four cardinal directions.Lay
  4.          the rest of the tools on the altar cloth or near it. The
  5.          altar can be on the ground, a table, a rock or a stump. The
  6.          altar should be in the center or just north of center of the
  7.          Circle. Light the six candles and the incense, start the
  8.          musicand begin the ritual.
  9.  
  10.                 THE RITUAL
  11.  
  12.     Facing North, the High Priest and Priestess kneel in front of
  13. the altar with him to her right. She puts the bowl of wateron the
  14. altar, places the point of her athame in it and says:
  15.  
  16.     "I exorcise thee, O Creature of Water, that thou cast out from
  17.          thee all impurities and uncleanliness of the world of
  18.          phantasm; in the names of Cernunnos and Aradia"
  19.  
  20.     She then puts down her athame and holds up the bowl of water
  21. in both hands. The High Priest puts the bowl of salt on the altar,
  22. puts his athame in the salt and says:
  23.  
  24.     "Blessings be upon this Creature of Salt; let all malignity
  25.          and hindrance be cast forth hencefrom, and let all good enter
  26.          herein; wherefore so I bless thee, that thou mayest aid me,
  27.          in the names of Cernunnos and Aradia."
  28.  
  29.     He then puts down his athame and pours the salt into the bowl
  30. of water the High Priestess is holding. The High Priest then stands
  31. with the rest of the Coven outside the Circle. The High Priestess then
  32. draws the Circle with the sword, leaving agap in the Northeast
  33. section. While drawing the Circle, she should visualize the power
  34. flowing into the Circle from off the end of the sword. She draws the
  35. Circle in a East to North or deosil or clockwise direction. She says:
  36.  
  37.     "I conjure thee, O Circle of Power, that thou beest a meeting
  38.          place of love and joy and truth; a shield against all
  39.          wickedness and evil; a boundary between men and the realms of
  40.          the Mighty Ones; a rampart and protection that shall preserve
  41.          and contain the power that we shall raise within thee.
  42.          Wherefore do I bless thee and consecrate thee, in the names
  43.          of Cernunnos and Aradia."
  44.  
  45.     The High Priestess lays down the sword and admits the
  46. HighPriest with a kiss while spinning him deosil and whispers "Blessed
  47. Be" . He then admits a women the same way. Alternate male female male.
  48. Then the High Priestess finishes closing the Circle with the sword.
  49. She then names three witches to help strengthen the Circle. The first
  50. witch carries the bowl of consecrated water from East to East going
  51. deosil, sprinkling the perimeter as she/he goes.  They then sprinkle
  52. each member in turn. If the witch is male, he sprinkles the High
  53. Priestess last who then sprinkles him. If female she sprinkles the
  54. High Priest last, who then sprinkles her. The bowl is replaced on the
  55. altar. The second witch takes the incense burner around the perimeter
  56. and the third takes one of the altar candles. While going around the
  57. perimeter, each person says:
  58.  
  59.     "Black spirits and white, 
  60.          Red spirits and grey,
  61.          Harken to the rune I say.
  62.          Four points of the Circle, weave the spell,
  63.          East, South, West, North, your tale tell.
  64.          East is for break of day,
  65.          South is white for the noontide hour,
  66.          In the West is twilight grey,
  67.          And North is black, for the place of power.
  68.          Three times round the Circle's cast.
  69.          Great ones, spirits from the past,
  70.          Witness it and guard it fast."

  72.     All the Coven pickup their athames and face the East with the
  73. High Priest and Priestess in front, him on her right. The High
  74. Priestess says:
  75.  
  76.     "Ye Lords of the Watchtowers of the East, ye Lords of Air; I
  77.          do summon, stir, and call you up to witness our rites    and to
  78.          guard the Circle."
  79.  
  80.     As she speaks she draws the Invoking Pentagram of Earth in the
  81. air with her athame. The High Priest and the rest of the Coven copy
  82. her movements with their athames. The High Priestess turns and faces
  83. the South and repeats the summoning:
  84.  
  85.     "Ye Lords of the Watchtowers of the South, ye Lords of Fire; I
  86.          do summon, stir and call you up, to witness our rites and to
  87.          guard the Circle."
  88.  
  89.     She does the same pentagram and then faces West and says:
  90.  
  91.     "Ye Lords of the Watchtowers of the West, ye Lords of Water,
  92.          ye Lords of Death and Initiation; I do summon,    stir, and call
  93.          you up, to witness our rites and to guard the Circle."
  94.  
  95.     She faces North with rest of the Coven and says:
  96.  
  97.     "Ye Lords of the Watchtowers of the North, ye Lords of    Earth;
  98.          Boreas, thou gentle guardian of the Northern Portals; thou
  99.          powerful God and gentle Goddess; we do    summon, stir and call
  100.          you up, to witness our rites and to guard the Circle."

  102.     The Circle is completed and sealed. If anyone needs to leave,
  103. a gate must be made. Using the sword, draw out part of the Circle with
  104. a widdershins or counterclockwise stroke.  Immediately reseal it and
  105. then repeat the opening and closing when the person returns.
